What does Micron (µ) mean?
The total thickness of tape (foil and glue) is indicated by the number of micron. The standard thickness of PVC Tape which we supply is 53 my, micron.
What does initial tack / adhesion to steel mean?

Tape producers have developed a test method to measure the adhesive power per quality. The adhesive power is indicated in Newton, f.e. 2,0 N/cm±0,6. The adhesive power is tested on steel.

How can I best store printed tape?

For our tapes we have the following store advice:

Temperature:
Tape can be stored at best in a non-humid room with a constant temperature between 15-23 degrees C. Is the temperature below the advice temperature, it could occur the tape will tear or break faster. Also the processing of printed tape is best if the tape is at room temperature.
Tape can also tear faster if the tape dispenser is damaged or does not work properly. So please use good tape tools!

Sunlight / UV:
Tape can best be stored in a dark room. If the tape is exposed to too much sunlight (UV radiation)can this affect the colour fastness. Deviations may arise.

General:
Please be sure that tape rolls do fall. It prevent them from the risk to tear or break.
How long can tape be stored?

This depends on the quality and in to what extent the store advice has been followed.

We use following guidelines:

  • PVC tape: 2,5 – 3 years
  • PP-Hotmelt: 9-12 months
  • PP-acrylic: 6 months
  • Papertape: 6 months

Which type of file can I best send for printing on tape?

Tape is printed using the flexo printing technique. Our designers are happy to receive vector files, drawn up in Adobe Illustrator, Coreldraw or other drawing program. Vector files have the following extension:
- ai
- cdr
- eps (illustrator eps)

These files are not constructed as a photo file (dots) (.jpg, tiff, bmp and some pdf files). As a result, vector images can be enlarged to any desired format without loss of quality.

This, in contrast to a raster or bitmap image, in which individual pixels of the digital canvas are colored separately. The resolution for the selected scale is then fixed, as a result of which the image becomes blurred or blocked when enlarged.
We regularly receive files in eg. jpg, bmp, -if, letterheads or pieces of tape sent by post. We first have to convert this material into a vector file. (That means scanning and signing) This takes extra time. Most often you will receive a message from us with the request if you can provide a better file. If this is not the case, extra costs will be charged for the conversion.

How is tape printed?
Your tape is printed with a cliché. This is a polymer plate. Parts have been saved on this, so that higher and lower parts are created. It is similar to a rubber stamp. The cliché will be attached to a cylinder. This is an essential and very accurate step in our production process. Then the ink is applied (this is the printing color). Only the higher areas will print on the tape. A cliche can be used multiple times. Costs for clichés are only applied to the very first order or in case of changes.

Would you like to know more about the production process of tape? Then look

What is Plexo Printing?
Tape is printed using the flexo printing technique. This technique is a rotary relief printing technique, using flexible printing malls. Mostly photopolymere and fast-drying thin liquid ink.
Relief printing means that the image which must be printed is located higher on the printing plate.
How many colors can be printed on tape?
Your tape can be printed with 1-3 colours. This depends on the quality you have chosen. We are using  the PMS colourcode system.

For more info check the page All about tape

From which print colors can I choose?
We are using the PMS colour code system. Here are countless possibilties within. PMS means Pantone Matching System. Pantone is the name of the company which publish colourcodes. PMS colours are standardized colours of which the ink is mixed to the right colour in advance. Each colour has its own, unique code. Do you already know your required PMS colourcode? Please, inform us in advance.

Can I choose another background color than the basic tape colours (white, brown & transparant)?

The basic tape colors are white, brown and transparent. This is the surface for the print. (backgroundcolor). Choosing another background color depends on the quality of the tape. This chosen colour will count in that case as a printing colour.

The tape is printed twice after all. First the backgroundcolour and then the printed text and/or logo.

What is the difference between positive- and reverse printing?

With a positive printing the largest part of the tape is  unprinted. The colour of the tape determines the background colour.

Positive printing

For reverse printing, text and/or logo are left open and imprinted against a colored or black background. On white tape, the lettering will be white (tape-color), and the background colored or black(inkcolor).

Reverse printing

Why is there a vertical white stroke on the tape with reverse printing?
The seam of the cliché is visible here: it will also appear on repeating the cliché. That's because the flat cliché is attached around a cylinder. This creates a V-shape where the ends meet. The cliché-seam is the vertical, unprinted white line which can be seen in a print preview.

I sometimes receive tape with partly unprinted pieces. What could be the cause of this?
This can have various causes. Intermittent change of the jumbo roll on the machine is the most common cause. In addition, it can sometimes be that the cliché just absorbs too little ink and therefore does not transfer the print well enough. Since this happens at great speed, it is unfortunately hard to avoid.
How is a cliché made?
Your tape is printed with a cliché. It is a polymer plate, parts of which have been saved, so that higher and lower parts are created. You can compare it to a stamp. The cliché is attached to a cylinder. This is a very important and accurate phase in the printing process of tape. The ink is then applied to the printing color (s). Only the higher parts print ink on tape. A cliché can be used several times.
